Envision Education: Expanding Digital Learning Opportunities

This spring, the Envision Education team traveled to Meizhou, Guangdong Province, to continue our mission of expanding digital learning opportunities for students with limited access to technology.  After months of planning, including fundraising, sourcing equipment, and coordinating logistics, we joined forces with our partner, Shining Star, to establish a fully functional computer lab at a rural primary school located an hour outside of Zijin county.  

The lab now contains 20 new computers, arranged to accommodate full classes, with software that supports both basic computer literacy development and educational programs. During our visit, we provided lessons to students on fundamental computer skills, internet navigation, and introductory use of artificial intelligence tools, helping them develop practical digital skills while exploring new ways to learn and problem-solve.  

In addition to setting up the lab, the team also addressed technical challenges at the school, including internet connectivity and troubleshooting the school's smart board, with assistance from local technicians. With new computers, a whole new world of information is now accessible to students, helping them explore, create, and learn in ways that weren’t possible before.
