HS Pops Concert: Steals the Stage!

Last week, on May 19th, Concordia held its 2026 Pops Concert at the U12 Theater in Pudong. It ran from the afternoon late into the evening, featuring all Middle School and High School musicians currently in music classes. The annual Pops Concert is typically the final concert of the school year before Graduation, and is a time to celebrate music and let loose a little bit.

It features pieces from various works of ‘popular media’, including movies, TV shows, and video games, as well as pop songs by famous artists. Often, the students get to choose a few of the songs they play, which is what makes the Pops Concert one of the most fun and engaging to practice and perform. This year, students performed pieces by artists such as Backstreet Boys, Laufey, and ABBA, as well as songs from movies like The Lion King, La La Land, and Kpop Demon Hunters. Sometimes, specialized props related to the songs are integrated into these musical performances, adding another layer of spectacle and joy to the concert. This year, the Chromatics brought a whole array of items to use for their Pixar Medley, including an inflatable horse and a Buzz Lightyear action figure.

The Pops Concert is also the final musical performance of the school year for the graduating seniors, making it particularly special. At the end of the concert, the seniors are called up to the front of the stage and given flowers as an appreciation and celebration of their contributions to the Concordia music community throughout the year(s).

This concert is always a fan favorite in the community, and the music department is always looking for suggestions about songs to include in the lineup next year. They would also like to thank all of the friends and family who attended the concert to support the student musicians. See you at the next concert!
