Throughout the week, our 6th graders have had the special opportunity to teach mini-lessons on self-control to students in the elementary grades. This project connects directly to our school’s ongoing commitment to service, character formation, and virtuous living.

What Are Students Teaching?

Our 6th graders have prepared short, engaging lessons that help younger students understand:

  • What self-control is

  • Why it matters in friendships, learning, and decision-making

  • Simple strategies for staying calm, thinking before acting, and making positive choices

These lessons include stories, role-plays, and interactive activities that make the concept meaningful and age-appropriate for the elementary students.

Why This Matters for 6th Graders

Teaching self-control is not just something our students say—it’s something they must also practice themselves. As they prepare and present these mini-lessons, they are learning to:

  • Manage their own emotions and nerves while teaching

  • Stay focused, organized, and patient with younger learners

  • Model the very virtue they are encouraging in others

  • Demonstrate responsibility, leadership, and empathy

By teaching these skills, our students are strengthening their own ability to communicate effectively, handle challenges thoughtfully, and lead with integrity.

Connection to Our School’s Values

This project directly supports our school’s mission to cultivate virtue, good character, and responsible citizenship. Practicing and teaching self-control helps students internalize habits that guide them toward wise decision-making and positive relationships.

We believe that understanding and living out virtues like self-control contributes to personal growth not only in school but beyond the classroom as well.
