Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC) Preparation
Parent-Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching, next Thursday (March 25th) and Friday (March 26th). As the MS Office and teachers prepare, we want to support parents in preparing for the conferences as well.
As two of the main stakeholders in the students’ education, parents and teachers are a team to support the students’ learning. As our Mission states, “we view every student as a gift from God, entrusted to us by parents, and are committed in stewardship to educate students holistically in a nurturing environment that includes comprehensive and challenging opportunities in academics, creative arts, spirituality, athletics, co-curricular activities, and service.” This is what guides us as we prepare for the first Parent-Teacher Conference of the year.
While we understand that grades are one part of a child’s education, we want to make sure parents are also taking time to discuss with the teachers, their child’s:
Strengths, needs, behaviors, and learning styles
Enrichment or intervention strategies to support students’ learning
Any issues that may be interfering with students’ learning and growth
Three Tips for a Successful Conference:
1) Have a “team” attitude – Parents know their child very well and teachers know the curriculum and student very well. Working together will help benefit the child the most.
2) Be prepared – On average, you will have 7-8 minutes to meet with each of your child’s teachers. Please have a conversation with your child about their classes, activities, and daily life. Review their Canvas account with them to start the discussion. Have your questions written down, so you can use your scheduled time efficiently. If conversations aren’t focused, then you may not have enough time to get your important questions/topics addressed.
3) Arrive on time – To allow all parents an equal opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers, the school asked parents to register for specific time slots. Please make sure you have booked your time, confirmed it, then arrive at the school at least 15 minutes before your appointment. Be aware of any weather, traffic, or parking issues that may delay you arriving to school on time. We will be hosting the PTCs in the PC Gym.
Your child’s counselor will be available in the PC Gym to meet. If you prefer a private conversation, they can take you to their office for a more private setting.
Due to the time limitation in PTCs, if you have a serious matter to discuss with any of your child’s teachers, we ask that you book a private meeting on a separate date. We look forward to hosting you and having great conversations about your child and their educational journey.
